The Upside of the European Economic Meltdown

I’m watching the Greek economic malaise very closely these days. Not because I’m worried about my financial portfolio, not because I’m a news junkie, and not because I’m terrified about a possible economic contagion spreading to the rest of the world. I’m watching it in the selfish hope that the European Union will eventually collapse, bringing the high cost of traveling to these countries back down to a very affordable, long-term jobless vagabond kind of price. I know what you’re thinking: I’m a monster, I’m ignorant, and this economic bomb is going to harm me just as much as the EU. What kind of vile, filthy being could ever hope for such a thing? Perhaps I’m as bad as you think I am. Yet wouldn’t it be simply marvelous to cruise around Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Ireland, at rock-bottom prices the likes of which would put Southeast Asia’s budget travel circuit to shame? Just imagine cruising around the Greek islands, visiting wine vineyards in Italy, and partying it up in Spain while paying next to nothing. I’m always wary of the media. I always suspect they’re overhyping stories so that they can sell their vile advertisements, make their money, and feed their monkey. But this time it seems like this whole doomsday thing has legs. Greece is burning money like a champ, and they are but a trifle compared to some other whales in the equation . So what do you all think?

Diamond Resorts Timeshare

Does anybody else have a Diamond Resorts Timeshare? My family had invested in one many years ago and we’ve steadily put money into over the years, but the choice of the different places you can go to seem fairly limited. Anybody else have a great time redeeming this sort of thing?

Road Trip or 1 week Holiday?

I need advice of the forum. I’m graduating from university in June and afterwards me and a couple of my housemates are thinking of a way to celebrate the end of higher education slug! We’re based in southeast England right now so we’re thinking of either going on a road trip around western europe or going on a holiday for a week to somewhere interesting but not sure where. Any suggestions? There’s 3/4 of us, we’re students so our budget is limited but not dirt limited. Some solid advice would be nice. Peace.

Travelling with an illness

I have type 1 diabetes, and want to do some travelling. I applied for some TEFL and related jobs, mostly in japan, but i really like the idea of the Baltics and the FSU as well. Realistically, is this doable? obviously i’ll have to pay for my meds, but is that affordable on a teachers wages? I know most schools don’t pay a hell of a lot. I know there’s one lad on here who’s a doctor, so can someone shed some light?

Montenegro - Podgorica / Budva

Anyone have any detailed info on Podgorica or Budva? I can’t find anything of value on Podgorica and the only thing I can find about Budva is don’t go in the off season and the girls are hot but difficult. Also does anyone know if there will be people in Budva next weekend or if it is still considered low season. I generally prefer cities so am thinking of staying in Podgorica but am open to suggestions.

Missing a good Moscow datasheet - any tips?

Going there on business next week, and the few threads about Moscow that we have are not very thorough. I was able to find out a few names of bars where supposedly forum members have had luck - Papa’s Place, Che Bar, Real McCoy, Dolls&Pistols. I looked them up on the map and they seem to be clustered in a place about 5km from the hotel I will be staying. The hotel was described to me as being downtown, and it does look it on the map - but I guess the city is so huge that anything within 5km counts as “nearby”. Maybe I’ll walk around the hotel at nights and see where the action is. Or I’ll take the metro to the place where these bars are. I hope to be able to devote at least a few nights to gaming, and will bust out a datasheet when I come back. Day game will not be in the program, because I will be working. In the meantime, if you have any tips for me, please share. For the record, I speak conversational Russian and have many Russian notches on my belt, so I’ll be looking to mix in with the locals - hopefully avoid expat places where gold-diggers go looking for oil&gas executives.
