Florida HS Forces Students to Partake in Pro-Obama Rally and DNC Video

Florida HS Forces Students to Partake in Pro-Obama Rally and DNC Video by Marc Schenker Associated Content March 26, 2010 Out of Marin County, Florida, comes a very distressing story about abuse of high school students by school administrators at Martin County High School. On March 16, more than 2000 students gathered on the football field of Martin County High School during school hours when they were mandated to be there. They were made to chant the Barack Obama campaign slogan “Yes, we can!” and also hold up posters with that very Obama slogan. All this was for a video which was then given to the Martin County Democrat Party for the purposes of handing it over to the Obama White House. There was no information given to parents either by notice or on the website of Martin County High School, and making matters even worse than they already were, at least 100 students who refused to partake had to anyway. Originally the brainchild of a student organization at Martin County High School (perhaps the Young SEIU Hopefuls; I don’t know), the pro-Obama rally and companion video were intended to bring Obama to Martin County to speak at a Recovery Rally event for the purpose of uniting the community, local business owners, and even the local government (natch) to support one another (awww, how “touching!”) in the magical-yet-irrational hopes of magically “ending the recession.” The Recovery Rally is a pet project dreamed up by a Martin County High School student organization (can you say future government employees?) to have Obama show up in their community and spread the propaganda of his Middle Class Task Force. Poor kids: Clearly, they’ve been indoctrinated into believing that Obama is the “Savior” and that government is the answer to everything. That makes me ask, Where the heck are their parents??!! While the event was innocuously disguised as supporting an ostensibly good cause—as, however, so many things are that ultimately end badly—that under no circumstances can ever justify how this was an attempt by Martin County High School to do a mass-indoctrination session on the very defenseless captive audience of high school kids. The excuse the school gave—pathetically, if you ask me— for forcibly herding the student body like impressionable sheep onto the football field was that they could not do this at any other time, had they chosen to attempt this after school, for instance, when attendance wouldn’t be mandatory. Nonsense! (Article continues below) Shop Earthhope Magazines As one parent, clearly the voice of reason and all-around good gal in this otherwise sordid tale, said, “It’s almost like they were trying to circumvent the parents.” Exactly! Amen to that! I mean, if Martin County High School wasn’t trying to circumvent the parents’ all-important authority, how can one validly explain the conspicuous absence of any information—whether in notices in the school or sent home with the little kiddies, or on the school’s website—about this event?! Unless…of course…it was very well an intentional attempt to circumvent the parents, steal the kids for a period of time for mass-indoctrination while using pro-Obama slogans, and then hope no one would notice…or care! Ha! Clearly, to the school’s inevitable consternation, one parent, the noble Diana Blackard, did notice and even went on Fox News to air the dirty laundry of the school administrators down there. Good for her. Blackard’s concerns should be received sympathetically by any parent—supposing, of course, that you care about your child enough to want them not to be used in a political commercial to request Obama to show up at your doorstep—and she had several good points to make. In example, Blackard mentioned that when her daughter—who’s now only a tender 15 years old—grows up and wants to hold, say, political office, or get a high-profile job, then there’s this old video of hers being used in an Obama mass-indoctrination rally! Yeah, that surely could pose problems for future employment, to be sure. The indisputable problem here—as intellectually honest readers will concur—is that Martin County High School is public. That means it’s funded by taxpayers, some of whom very well may object to having their kids used as political commercial material!! In public schools, you can’t and shouldn’t do this sort of abuse because once you cross this line, as the high school did, there’s the issue of indoctrination of school kids and also the glaring support of a president of a particular political party…especially when…you know…all the kids were forced to chant the Obama-zombie chant of “Yes, we can! Yes, we can!” The district did convincingly vote for Obama in 08, which probably explains a lot of this pro-Obama bias. As a final note, questions as to who’s wrong in this sordid tale don’t exist because Martin County High School has already acknowledged that they didn’t conduct themselves properly in this matter, but Diana Blackard is still principled and resolute in her demand that the school district needs to apologize. I agree and hope she gets her overdue apology. As for the school kids, I fear for them…I really do because all their misguided actions of idealistically petitioning the president to come to their school, when they had concerns over employment opportunities in their area, tell me that they’ve been brainwashed to think that government solves all financial problems! Ironically, if they wanted to get the president to solve the economic woes in their area, they should’ve shot a video petitioning him to stop giving money to the federal government to “create” jobs and instead cut tax rates on small businesses, the traditional engine of economic recoveries. Glenn Beck’s right: Indoctrination is really happening to your kids at some public schools! Tax-Break Battle Flares

Tax-Break Battle Flares by Scott Thurm And Dan Fitzpatrick WSJ March 25, 2010 J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. is nearing a deal that would allow it to benefit from a tax refund of as much as $1.4 billion, becoming the latest company to tap a little-noticed plank in an economic stimulus bill. That law let companies apply losses from 2008 or ’09 against taxes paid in the previous five years, instead of the previous two years. Failed Seattle thrift Washington Mutual is eligible for about $2.6 billion in tax refunds, thanks to big losses in 2008. Now J.P. Morgan, which took over WaMu’s banking operations in September 2008, is in discussions with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and bondholders about the refund. According to people familiar with the talks, an agreement under discussion would let J.P. Morgan claim more than half of the total, to be held in an FDIC receivership as part of a larger settlement with bondholders. J.P. Morgan could dip into that pot to satisfy certain claims related to WaMu’s collapse. Many other companies have benefited from the 2009 tax-refund law already. According to an analysis of securities filings by The Wall Street Journal, more than 250 companies have so far said they expect to get about $12 billion in federal tax refunds under the law. (Article continues below) Shop Earthhope Magazines That remains a partial list. The Joint Committee on Taxation, a congressional committee, estimated the provision would cost $33 billion in its first year. Some critics have found the corporate-tax-refund technique wanting as a stimulus or job-creation move. Prior to Congress’s passage of the $787 billion stimulus law in early 2009, the Congressional Budget Office looked at six possible stimulus approaches and ranked this one least effective, saying each corporate tax dollar refunded would generate at most 40 cents of boost to gross domestic product. The corporate-tax-refund approach wasn’t included in the big stimulus bill early in the year, but was part of legislation in November that extended jobless benefits. Douglas Shackelford, a tax professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, said using federal tax receipts to shore up corporate balance sheets amounts to “public borrowing to pay off private debt…. It’s not clear to me that’s a good use of money at all.” Home builders, hit with big losses in the housing slump, are getting the biggest lift from the law. Sixteen builders estimate they’re due refunds totaling over $2.6 billion. The tax break propelled builders Lennar Corp., Hovnanian Enterprises Inc. and KB Home to profits in recent quarters. Others that have said they’re receiving tax refunds include US Airways Group Inc. and Alaska Air Group Inc.; retailers Liz Claiborne Inc., Borders Group Inc. and Zale Corp.; and financial-services firms HSBC Holdings PLC and Legg Mason Inc. The law doesn’t say how recipients must use the refunds. Some plan to pay down debt or stockpile cash. Most aren’t saying how they’ll use the money. Liz Claiborne said a $167 million refund it received will help it open 25 stores this year, instead of closing 10 to 20 as planned. “For us it was transformative. It puts our company back in an expansion mode,” said the retailer’s chief executive, William McComb, who had personally lobbied for the tax break. Oil-and-gas company Apache Corp. will pump its expected $138 million tax refund into its multibillion-dollar exploration budget, a spokesman said. Some companies intentionally took steeper losses last year to qualify for bigger tax refunds. KB Home sold land at a loss in 2009, the Los Angeles home builder told investors in January. “We were able to dispose of lots, generate cash, take advantage of [the tax break], improve our balance sheet,” KB Chief Executive Jeffrey Mezgersaid. “It was a very nice move for us.” Booking the $192 million tax benefit propelled KB Home to a $100 million profit in its fiscal fourth quarter ended Nov. 30. Circuit City Stores Inc., which sought bankruptcy protection in 2008, recently said it expects an $86 million refund. The retailer closed all of its stores last year. J.P. Morgan’s access to the stimulus law would come even though the statute excluded recipients of aid under the Troubled Asset Relief Program. J.P. Morgan got $25 billion in TARP aid, which it has since repaid. Another TARP recipient, Seacoast Banking Corp. of Florida, said Tuesday in a federal filing is “not allowed” to tap refunds because it took bailout money. In September 2008, J.P. Morgan bought the banking operations of Washington Mutual Inc., which had been taken over my regulators after running up big losses. When Congress passed the tax break last fall, J.P. Morgan said it should be allowed to claim the $2.6 billion in tax refunds WaMu would have qualified for if it hadn’t failed and been seized by the FDIC. Holders of WaMu bonds have argued they should get the refunds and have objected to J.P. Morgan’s claims, citing the lifeline J.P. Morgan got under TARP. Giving the break to J.P. Morgan would essentially grant the big New York bank “a refund of its purchase price” for WaMu, said Renee Dailey a Bracewell & Giuliani LLP partner who represents some bondholders. J.P. Morgan officials have told other parties in the case the ban on TARP recipients using the tax break is irrelevant, because it was WaMu that paid the taxes on which the refund is based. J.P. Morgan has noted the refund wouldn’t go to it directly; it would sit in a receivership at the FDIC that also houses the $1.9 billion JPM paid for WaMu’s banking assets and deposits. Under the deal being discussed, $1.55 billion of the refund would go into the pot that would be used by the FDIC to cover J.P. Morgan’s potential losses on legal claims related to the takeover. J.P. Morgan can then make a claim for as much as $1.4 billion of those funds. J.P. Morgan wants to protect itself against exposure to mortgages that WaMu serviced, people familiar with the matter said. The refund could help J.P. Morgan avoid paying any damages out of its own pocket. The potential settlement with bondholders covers an additional $11 billion in disputed deposits and other assets. Bondholders, a federal judge and the boards of the FDIC and J.P. Morgan must approve the proposal, along with a bankruptcy judge. If that happens, Washington Mutual’s parent company, which filed for bankruptcy reorganization in 2008 and is still in bankruptcy court, would apply for a refund from the Internal Revenue Service. The agency would then decide the final amount of the tax break. Source: Wall Street Journal .

Healthcare Bill Exempts Congress and Staff

Healthcare Bill Exempts Congress and Staff Fascist Soup March 25, 2010 This is so outrageous I’m fairly speechless. Politico reports: The Congressional Research Service believes a court could rule that the legislation “would exclude professional committee staff, joint committee staff, some shared staff, as well as potentially those staff employed by leadership offices.” However, when the combined Senate bill came to the floor, the definition of staff had been narrowed. Both senators filed a second amendment in December restating their original intent, but they say Democrats blocked it. “The American people will be appalled to learn the health care bill exempts leadership and committee staff. This special deal for unelected staff underscores everything the public detests about the arrogance of power in Washington,” Coburn said. “I tried to fix this inequity along with senators Grassley, Burr and Vitter, but Majority Leader [Harry] Reid obstructed our effort.” (Article continues below) Shop Earthhope Magazines The fascist democrats obstructed an amendment that forced themselves and their crony staff from being put into the same lot with the rest of us. Of course, why wouldn’t they? They are a bunch of fascist looting criminal thieves intent on destroying this country at all costs. They have no morals. They have no respect for freedom or liberty. They have no respect for the constitution. As with all tyrannical governments – laws are for the little people. Of course, this is just one outrage among thousands. The history of government giving itself more rights than its citizens is nearly endless, even in our supposedly “free” country. Source: Fascist Soup .

Renouncing British Citizenship

I am a born British citizen. I moved to the US 12 years ago to be with my US wife. We are still happily together and still living on the US. I expect to be living in the US for the rest of my life. My green card expires next year. Not sure how difficult the green card is to renew but I am being told that I should become a US citizen anyway; and that would be easier to do before my green card expires. I am being told if I am going to be here the rest of my life I should vote and be part of the citizenship fully. I have also been told it is easier to travel with a US passport and retirement would be simpler if I was a citizen. My wife wants me to be a citizen as well. I have no problem taking citizenship other than the fact they will make me renounce my British citizenship. If I understand correctly they only make you say that in the Oath and cannot and do not actually make you give up British citizenship? But even if that is true, I am proud to be British and will always be British first. So I feel guilty making an oath I do not believe in. I’d like to hear from others of the same mind. Am I worrying to much? Others have said just say the words and don’t worry about it. If I feel that way should I just not become a citizen and stay as a green card holder only. Can I do that until the day I die or would that be to my or my families disadvantage?

November, 2010: More Rearranging of Deck Chairs

November, 2010: More Rearranging of Deck Chairs by Scott Lazarowitz Lew Rockwell March 22, 2010 You’ve probably heard the expression, “Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic,” which refers to making futile changes to a failing situation. This November’s elections will be such a case of rearranging the deck chairs on Titanic America, because the real problem that needs to be addressed is systemic, and serious systemic changes need to be made. There will be those who will say, “No, no, don’t say that, we have a chance to win back both the House and the Senate this November!” But these are times that call for a dose of reality. Unfortunately, many people involved with the Tea Party movement seem to have the misguided notion that the Founders’ structure of the federal government is adequate, but that the people in Washington just need to be replaced. However, the Founders’ forming a federal government with centralized power and authority and a compulsory territorial monopoly has been shown to be an immense error. Inherent in such a structure is the violation of property and individuals’ rights to life and liberty, hence America’s steady moral decay over the last century. And inherent in federalism is the violation of state independence and sovereignty. The elections of 1980, 1994 and 2000 did not reverse Big Government. When Ronald Reagan was elected president in 1980, the “conservative” president not only didn’t cut entire cabinet-level departments as promised, he added three new cabinet-level departments. After cutting taxes, a year later Reagan signed what was then to be America’s biggest tax increase. Reagan also signed one deficit-laden budget after another, and during Reagan’s presidency, the National Debt skyrocketed along with all the regulations and bureaucracy he promised to cut. Following the 1994 “Republican Revolution,” the federal government continued to grow out of control, and, after 2000, the younger President George W. Bush’s “compassionate conservatism” – i.e. more socialist redistribution of wealth schemes – and expanding the military industrial complex only fed Leviathan much more. (Article continues below) Shop Earthhope Magazines As economist Murray Rothbard noted, …first, left-liberals, in power, make a Great Leap Forward toward collectivism; then, when, in the course of the political cycle, four or eight years later, conservatives come to power, they of course are horrified at the very idea of repealing anything; they simply slow down the rate of growth of statism, consolidating the previous gains of the Left, and providing a bit of R&R for the next liberal Great Leap Forward…. Rothbard and economist Hans-Hermann Hoppe have written extensively on these issues. In his book, Democracy: The God That Failed, Hoppe explains how democratic governments have contributed a great deal to reversing the process of civilization. The real achievements of democracy have been the empowering of some people to legally extract private wealth and property from others, and empowering the political class to use coercion and brute force against others to achieve certain goals. At the heart of the problem are the temporary nature of democracy and the exploitative nature of a system of compulsion and monopoly. Economically, according to Hoppe, unlike in a monarchy in which the king owns the country’s territory and has a long-term interest in its capital value, in democracies the ruler is a “temporary caretaker,” and a temporary and interchangeable democratic caretaker does not own the country, but as long as he is in office he is permitted to use it to his advantage. He owns its current use but not its capital stock. This does not eliminate exploitation. Instead, it makes exploitation shortsighted (present-oriented) and uncalculated, i.e., carried out without regard for the value of the capital stock. Hoppe expands on those ideas: …a private government owner (a monarch) will want to avoid exploiting his subjects so heavily, for instance, as to reduce his future earnings potential to such an extent that the present value of his estate actually falls. Instead, in order to preserve or possibly even enhance the value of his personal property, he will systematically restrain himself in his exploitation policies…. In distinct contrast… public government ownership will result in continual capital consumption. Instead of maintaining or even enhancing the value of the government estate, as a private owner would tend to do, a government’s temporary caretaker will quickly use up as much of the government resources as possible…. Therefore, a distinct characteristic of government, or “public sector,” activity is lack of incentive and ability in long-range planning, and, because “societal planning” cannot take individual market factors into account, economic calculations are impossible. In the public sector, political calculations are necessary. For example, in 1990, just after a war initiated by Russia against Afghanistan, and seeing how the people of a territory did not like being invaded and thus the underdog Afghans put up a good fight against the mighty Russians, one might think that then-U.S. President George H. W. Bush would foresee that his invading Iraq (a country that did not attack the U.S.) would have negative long-term consequences for the U.S. But Bush took U.S. forces into Iraq, and increased forces in surrounding foreign lands, at America’s long-term expense. Bush’s son, the younger President George Bush followed in his dad’s footsteps. Without regard to America’s capital value and actual long-term economic interests, politicians have acted largely on self-interest and short-term exploitation of the system of democratic governance. Moreover, because of corporate-statism, America has also experienced such short-sightedness and parasitic consumption among America’s business sector. One example of that is the federal government’s October 2008 Wall Street Bailout, which further discouraged long-range planning and productivity of the nation’s most powerful financial institutions. America is now suffering great economic turmoil while rewarding the short-term, immediate gratification of the Wall Street fat cats. As a major contributor of pervading societal moral decay, the Wall Street Bailout has been an example of activist government redistribution programs that discourage saving, investing, long-range planning and responsibility. Over generations of electoral rearranging of deck chairs and further expansion of government’s size and power, America has experienced a decline in personal responsibility and traditional values. As a consequence of Social Security, families’ responsibility for the care of their elder members is transferred to anonymous neighbors. President Obama’s threatened government takeover of the entire medical system will make FDR’s New Deal pale in comparison. Thus, America’s structure of government’s territorial monopoly and legislative rule has turned society from one of natural laws guarding individual rights to one of man-made laws that have allowed citizens to covet others’ wealth and property, and has enabled politicians to rise to the top with proficiency in rhetoric but no abilities in producing anything of actual value to others. The 2010 delusion of correcting government’s mistakes has already begun with Scott Brown’s recent election to the United States Senate. After having voted for socialized health care and fascist insurance mandates in Massachusetts, and opposing cutting the state income tax, Brown was falsely promoted as a conservative Tea Party candidate. And already the Tea Party movement itself, supposedly one promoting independence and limited government, is being pulled into a life of dependence on the GOP, a party glued to the false security of dependence on centralized Big Government’s monopoly of territorial protection. As author James Bovard observed, We now have the Battered Citizen Syndrome: the more debacles, the more voters cling to faith in their rulers…. The greater the government’s failure to protect, the greater the subsequent mass fear – and the easier it becomes to subjugate the populace. One way to prevent a huge societal disaster is by decentralizing, the dismantling of the federal government and letting the states have their independence and sovereignty back. The total destruction of the United States of America will have been wrought by the U.S. federal government. Instead of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic with more electoral changes, the way to save America will be by decentralization and a return to the sanctity of private property rights, freedom of association and contract, and totally unrestricted free trade and commerce.
